Achieving Satisfactory Results on Imation Rainbow™ Adhesive Backed Receptor

[ Download this document in Adobe Acrobat format (128 K) ]

Clear and white Adhesive Backed Receptor (ABR) from Imation used with the Imation™ Rainbow™ Color Proofing System can be used in Model 2710 and Model 2720 Rainbow™ proofers. The construction of ABR material is a 2 mil polyester with an adhesive coating and liner on the back side. Due to this construction, the performance characteristics are different than paper.

For best proofing performance, make sure the correct media and color table are selected in the Rainbow™ Controller Software Preferences dialog box. Your selections depend on your proofer model (2710 or 2720). Preferences

Preferences

4. Select the appropriate color target at the Color Target field, depending on the media you are using.

In dusty or dirty environments the ABR material will be more susceptible to static dust attraction than the standard paper receptor. As a result, there will be voids in the images where dust has gotten between the ink ribbon and the ABR material. To minimize problems related to dust and dirt use the following guidelines:

  • Keep work area clean.

  • Remove ABR materials from the
packaging and place them directly into the feed cassette.

  • Avoid using the manual sheet feed position located on the top of the cassette. Dust and dirt will collect on this surface and transfer to the ABR material.

  • Rewind the ribbon just enough to cover the next unused color patch before removing the ink ribbon from the proofer. Avoid setting the ink ribbon on dusty surfaces.

ABR material was designed for customers to produce mock ups. The results of PPS field tests show that the ABR material has met customer needs. It has also provided a means of producing digital packaging designs that were not possible using the standard Rainbow™ proofer paper.

If you have any questions regarding the use of ABR material or the Rainbow™ color proofing system, contact the Imation C.A.R.E. Center at 1-800-328-1303.
